6+ weeks into the new school year

Well, it’s been about 7 weeks into the new school year and I’m exhausted. I’ve had a 10 day virus and bronchitis. My car has had a nail in it and I’ve missed 5 days of work. I’ve had to sub for 8 periods already. I’ve had 4 IEP meetings and have had to create 4 IEPs. I’m tired and no break until October 25th.

Please be assured that I am fighting for your child every day. I am asking not to sub so I don’t miss your child in class. I am speaking to teachers about your child’s accommodations and making sure they are being followed. I am asking your child to advocate for themselves. I am reaching out to others if I notice something about your child which needs to be shared.

I am your child’s advocate.

You should have had an Open House by now or atleast been able to meet or talk to your child’s teachers. Do you feel heard? Do you still have questions? Call, email or write a note. Please don’t wait. Ask those questions sooner than later.

How was your day? What did you do today? What did you learn?

Or

Show me your backpack. Show me your agenda and your folder. Look for notices and homework. Be an active participant in your child’s after school routine. Use yes and no questions so your child can give you some feedback. Was your teacher in school today? Was your bus ride quiet? Did you have fun with your friends today? Did you use the bathroom? Did you …..? Create questions which are age appropriate and give you a clear picture of the day. Use the checklists I’ve shared. Adapt them for your child. Ask me and I could help.

Happy new school year ✏️🚌📖🍎
