Fuel Tank is Empty

As a self contained special education teacher I am on high alert at all times. I’m making decisions constantly and changing gears as frequently. I’m watching the room looking for frustration, sickness, tiredness, off task behaviors, dis-regulation and the list goes on and on.

It is the end of April and I’m been absent only 3 days this school year. One day was planned to attend a doctor’s appointment. One was planned to attend a training. A 1/2 day was planned to study for a state test. I really can’t be out.

Well, when my tank is empty I need to reset. Today is one of those days. I haven’t had a consistent staff attendance in many months. New students have changed the climate and state testing has disrupted our structure. Sometimes adults need a mental health day.

Some days your children need a mental health day. Especially, children who can’t communicate their needs and wants may need a day off. Look for the signals and as a parent it’s just fine to keep your child home if you feel they need a day to reset. Children are under so much pressure and subjected to so much technology they must be tired.

Rest up !!!!
