Happy Labor Day parents and guardians. I’m checking in after almost a month of school has begun. How are you feeling? How is your child’s school year going?
I tell the truth. It’s been a struggle so far this year. I’m in a new county, a new school, a new position, with new students and new assistants. “Controlled chaos” explains the beginning of the school year, always. Teaching children school procedures which are very different from home procedures is a challenge. Some children missed school and some children now miss their parents. Children who have had a lot of freedom in the summer, are now asked to conform to very rigid rules. Waking up early is also so hard for so many.
Is your child’s IEP being followed? Have they begun receiving their services? Are accommodations being given?
You are your child’s advocate. If anything seems off, now is the time to approach the teacher. Ask questions and get your concerns answered.
