What an emotional weekend it was for most around the world. It was the 20th anniversary of 911 and it impacted so many close to home and far away. Whether you lost a loved one, friend, colleague or just experienced it through the media, you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing.
I was talking to my mother on the phone, watching the Today Show with my newborn in her swing and my 3 year old underfoot. I was on maternity leave. I watched Matt Lauer and Katie Couric go from entertaining us to serious news reporters. I watched the second plane hit the tower. My husband called later that morning. He worked as a Food and Beverage Manager in a hotel and had to travel with the delivery guy to get supplies. I95 was shut done. They were the only ones on the road.
This past weekend was so emotional because everyone has had the time to reflect. Babies have grown up. Families have tearfully moved through the years. Pictures were made available and first responders shared their stories. I am also a diehard Mets fan and stories were shared by the players. They had gone to the site to offer support. They gave out many supplies to all who helped during that horrific time. Mike Piazza then hit that homerun that brought the country together knowing the country would be okay with the support of so many.
I pray that the country and world reflected and remembered this weekend the aftermath, and how everyone came together no matter their, age, gender, race or religious belief. I pray the world will go back to that mind set as we move forward.
