Sensory overload

The holidays may be coming to a close, but these tips help you and your child navigate our crazy crowded world throughout the year.

  1. schedule down-time, choose some quiet activities
  2. limit your guests, have people come in a staggered time schedule to allow for different arrival times, don’t use the doorbell,
  3. let go of expectations of perfection, we all strive for perfection, but we all have different visions of perfection
  4. reduce the number of gifts given at one time, too many at one time is overwhelming, if your child only opens one and wants to play with it that’s great
  5. leave events early, if necessary, use a timer, watch, clock or favorite toy to signal to your child it is time to go
  6. plan ahead and leave time for transitions, if plans get changed or shortened it is okay
