Start your daily routines
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We all require routines to make our lives happier and healthier. We are able to create our own that work for us in an organized or unorganized manner based on our own needs. The little ones( school age children) require our help.
Below is a list of things to begin working on as your child returns to school after winter break.
Ask them what they would like for snacks and lunches. It’s amazing how many children come to school disliking the food they bring from home. Parents are wasting money because children are throwing away the food. I’ve always sent it back home and told the child to tell their parents they don’t like it( I’ve written notes for the non-verbal students).
Buy snacks ahead of time in bulk so you are not wasting your time rushing out because you ran out.
Create a summary of what you did over vacation to help the teacher know what to, and not to chat with your child about.
Discover what your child is looking forward to doing once back in school.
Enjoy your last full days at home with your child.
Find all the necessary materials needed for heading back to school.
Gather all the necessary materials needed for heading back to school and put them in a specific spot.
Help your child WHEN they ask.
Independence is a key part of your child’s growth.
Joke with your child when mistakes happen.
Keep the routine consistent. Positive change can be seen after the plan has been implemented for 2 weeks.
Lists with pictures are great for the younger children
Make homework time a specific time in the afterschool routine
Never assume your child can’t do.
Only do FOR your child once they have tried themselves.
Pick out the outfit for the first day back.
Quiz your child on math facts or spelling words
Read a book to settle your child before bedtime.
Set a timer for bedtime
Take fun breaks after an activity
Use yourself as an example when mistakes happen.
Vary hard or undesirable tasks with easier or fun tasks
Write down to do lists and have your child check off items once accomplished.
eXpect certain things from your child and make them known( every child, no matter their age, can do something to help out with getting themselves ready for school).
Yawns are a good thing at the end of the day
Zero in on your child’s behavior so you can jump in and support if needed.
I hope this list helps you and your child have a rewarding and stress free routine heading back to school. Please email me with any questions.😀
