Good morning friends and families. It’s a sunny day here in Florida and it’s almost time for me to go to my first class. Being an ESE (special educator), teacher as it’s called in Florida, has me going into the classes to support middle schoolers, who have an IEP. Along with the students who I support, there are many gen ed students and ELL students who also need my support. Direct instruction with concrete examples continue to be the best way for them to learn. Many of my elementary families wanted to know what their children’s future looks like in middle school. I can speak from experience that there are many students with an IEP, who are flourishing once they are in middle school. There are also many that are struggling just because it’s a different schedule with different expectations taught in a much more lecture type way.
